Aston Martin replaces Stroll with Jack Crawford for FP1 at Austrian Grand Prix

Aston Martin has confirmed that during FP1 at the upcoming Austrian Grand Prix, young Jack Crawford will take the place of Lance Stroll on track

The focus on young talent continues at the Red Bull Ring. After seven young drivers took part last weekend in Barcelona, another starting driver will give up an hour for FP1. Just moments ago, Aston Martin officially announced that Jack Crawford will pilot Lance Stroll’s AMR26, while Stroll will watch the F1 session from the pit wall.

Crawford racks up kilometers behind the Formula 1 wheel

The Austrian Spielberg circuit will mark Crawford’s fourth official Formula 1 session. He debuted last year in Mexico while still fighting for the Formula 2 championship, which he eventually lost to Fornaroli. We saw him again at last year’s Abu Dhabi finale and earlier this year in Suzuka, where he drove a Formula 1 car for the first time after extensive simulator work. He will return again this weekend.

The American driver recently completed Pirelli tire tests in Barcelona earlier this week, gathering valuable data for the Silverstone-based team. Altogether, he has completed an impressive 3,800 kilometers in a Formula 1 car, making him one of the most experienced drivers outside the official grid.

The program for Austria

“It’s fantastic to get another chance to drive the AMR26 during a race weekend,” said Crawford. “Austria is a circuit I know well, and it’s really special to return to the Red Bull Ring with the team, nearly two years after my first F1 car test.”

“This season, I’ve spent a lot of time in the simulator supporting the team,” he continued, emphasizing how important factory work is. “Recently, I finished Pirelli’s tire testing in Barcelona, so I’m excited to apply all that work in an official session. Every opportunity in an F1 car is valuable. My goal is to provide useful feedback and maximize the session for the team.”
