Despite the encouraging signs, the team urges caution ahead of tomorrow’s race. Lando emphasized that the qualifying result is just an indicator and not a definitive proof of the car’s race pace. Meanwhile, the current world champion appears very comfortable on this track, as shown in his edge over his teammate.
norris praises McLaren’s progress following upgrades
Lando Norris secured pole position for the Hungarian GP qualifying thanks to McLaren’s updates. While predictions favored Ferrari, Norris managed to edge out Hamilton by a mere 12 thousandths of a second. Hamilton was later penalized, making Charles Leclerc the top contender in the race.
In Belgium, the car showed promise, but according to Norris, this did not translate into track performance: “We brought upgrades, and that potential turned into a result, which is always fantastic for the whole team to see. It greatly boosts motivation and the team’s atmosphere. It’s rewarding to see all the hard work paying off, so I’m very happy for everyone,” he told media outlets including F1inGenerale.
Confirmations will be crucially needed during the race. McLaren no longer relies primarily on tyre management in high temperatures as a strength. This aspect, especially on the rear axle, could challenge the MCL40’s race pace.
“You can’t count on just a good qualifying; I need a strong race tomorrow. We’ll enjoy a good summer break, but then we must aim to repeat this performance multiple times. We’re working hard. We know we’ve been chasing, but we are making progress, and today is proof of that.”
