On the return to <strong>Sepang<\/strong>, Red Bull immediately impressed with Max Verstappen topping the timesheets. Mercedes struggled badly in their race simulation, suffering significant tyre degradation, while <strong>Ferrari<\/strong> appears competitive so far. Here are the full results and a summary of the <strong>FP1 in Malaysia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_396061\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-396061\" style=\"width: 2190px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-396061 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/f1ingenerale.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/DSC_0231_risultato.webp\" alt=\"Ferrari performance in FP1 Malaysia\" width=\"2200\" height=\"1467\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-396061\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Marco Talluto, F1inGenerale<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>First 30 minutes: very slippery track<\/h3>\n<p>The Sepang track, which hasn\u2019t hosted Formula 1 since 2017, was in <strong>very poor condition<\/strong>. Besides extreme temperatures and humidity comparable to Singapore, the surface offered <strong>very little grip<\/strong>. Many drivers made mistakes, especially in the final corner. Additionally, Leclerc highlighted the <strong>high tyre degradation<\/strong> as a key challenge.<\/p>\n<p>The drivers started cautiously, mostly using medium tyres to get accustomed. Early interesting lap times came from the two <strong>Red Bulls<\/strong>, with Hadjar ahead of Verstappen, posting high 1:37s. Mercedes launched strongly with their new upgrades. <strong>Ferrari was ahead of McLaren at this stage.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Second 30 minutes: qualifying runs and race simulations<\/h3>\n<p>The second half featured the first qualifying simulations. On soft tyres, <strong>Max Verstappen<\/strong> set the fastest time at 1:37.520, almost four tenths clear of <strong>George Russell and teammate Isack Hadjar<\/strong>. Charles Leclerc\u2019s <strong>Ferrari ranked fourth<\/strong>, followed by Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton. McLaren struggled, with Norris and Piastri posting 11th and 12th fastest times.<\/p>\n<p>During a brief <strong>race pace simulation<\/strong>, Verstappen looked strongest, maintaining a consistent pace despite heavy tyre wear. Ferrari seemed close, running similar times. Mercedes surprised negatively, facing several technical and tyre management problems.
