Jerome D’Ambrosio details Ferrari’s focused development work on the SF-25 floor ahead of the Bahrain GP
Ferrari’s deputy team principal, Jerome D’Ambrosio, spoke to the media during the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend, outlining the updates, floor, introduced on Leclerc and Hamilton’s Ferrari SF-25. The Middle Eastern round is expected to play a key role in the championship, especially given the pre-season expectations. The SF-25 floor upgrades, as D’Ambrosio explained in detail, are the result of long-term work that culminated with their debut in Bahrain.
“In general, we aim to add downforce while maintaining drivability,” D’Ambrosio stated. “That said, we’re not trying to completely revolutionize the car’s performance. We’re just looking to improve step by step. That’s extremely important because every hundredth gained is progress, and that’s exactly what we’re pursuing. No revolution, just marginal and consistent improvements.”
Ferrari’s development work will continue, as expected, into FP2, with engineers in Maranello and Sakhir conducting further comparisons. A series of simulator runs, flow-vis tests, and driver feedback will be key to validating the changes.
In FP1, the new floor was tested by Beganovic and Hamilton, though not pushed to its full potential. The session was affected by high temperatures and dusty conditions, which severely limited grip.
“We want to add performance without overhauling the current platform, because the operating window we’re in is solid. Right now, there’s no urgent need to fix a specific area—we just need to maximize what we have and improve the balance by adding downforce. That’s how we move forward.”
D’Ambrosio urges calm with 2026 in mind
As expected, the 2025 season is considered a transitional one due to the major regulation overhaul coming in 2026. While the title may still be within reach—thanks to the number of races left and the potential of the upgrades—Ferrari is carefully balancing its development focus between 2025 and 2026.
“We haven’t set a specific point in the season where we’ll stop focusing on the SF-25 and switch to the new regulations. That decision will come later, based on several criteria. When the time comes, we’ll evaluate—but for now, it’s still not enough.”
