Leclerc has eyes on him. Red Bull and Aston Martin are interested in the Ferrari driver.
The admission comes from the Milton Keynes consultant himself, Helmut Marko, who in a chat with Formu1a.uno revealed that he has been probing the ground to bring the Monegasque to Red Bull.

There were talks towards the end of May to see if there was a possibility of him leaving Ferrari“, explained the Austrian.

Aston Martin also tried before us. They are looking for a top driver for when Alonso leaves the team‘, he added.

Ferrari takes countermeasures: Leclerc right now, Sainz not

It is indeed the pressure from the two top teams that seems to have induced Ferrari and Vasseur to accelerate the paperwork for Leclerc’s renewal. The Monegasque’s contract extension is therefore now at the top of the team principal’s priorities.

The same cannot be said for Carlos Sainz. Discussions with the Spaniard are currently ‘on standby’ and it seems that the 55 has not taken it well. We will see how they decide to act in Maranello.

Liberty Media’s intervention

With Verstappen confirmed, why would Red Bull want Leclerc? The goal, according to Marko, is to have two top drivers soon. The names, as mentioned, are that of the Monegasque and that of Lando Norris, target number one to join the Dutchman.

A team, then, with a high spectacular profile, with two drivers ready to battle each other every weekend. With Red Bull’s domination appearing likely to last until 2026, Liberty Media is looking forward to nothing more.
