Hamilton called by stewards at Sepang as FIA investigates impeding of Bortoleto

The FIA published document number 20 at 16:40 on October 2, clearly listing car number 44 for Hamilton and car number 5 for Bortoleto. Both Hamilton and a team representative had to appear at 17:30 local time to explain the incident.
Hamilton faces possible penalty
The FIA’s official rationale accuses Hamilton of breaching article B4.1.1 of the sporting regulations by blocking Bortoleto’s car at turn 9 at 16:24, during the middle phase of FP2. While Bortoleto was on his out lap, he came across Hamilton’s Ferrari, which was on a cooldown lap.
The Audi driver expressed his frustration over the radio, complaining about the Ferrari’s behaviour.
However, an important factor the stewards may consider is that Hamilton had informed his team about a problem with his right mirror. He explained he could not see clearly behind him and requested updates on traffic approaching from the rear.
No penalty announced yet
It’s important to note the FIA document does not announce any penalty against Hamilton. It only records a stewards’ summons scheduled for 11:30 Italian time. The hearing will decide whether Hamilton’s actions constituted an offence and if a penalty is warranted.
This incident follows a recent impeding inquiry involving Hamilton at Baku, where he was accused of blocking Liam Lawson during free practice and received a reprimand, his second this season.
At Sepang, Hamilton will again have the opportunity to present his account. The mirror issue and radio communications will play key roles in assessing responsibility for the incident with Bortoleto.
For now, Hamilton has not received any penalty. The stewards will make a decision only after the hearing.
